去年蒔いたまま放っておいたら、ゴボウができていました。新しくルームメイトになった料理人の友達が、ゴボウサラダにしてくれました。大根は、残念ながら、柴の森産ではありません。今年はできるかな？

Burdock roots, from last year’s seeding that was left untouched all this time, added a delicious burdock salad for supper.  The Daikon, sadly, was not grown in Shiba Forest – maybe this year!

今日は暖かかったので、豆とポテトを植えました。何も見えないけれど、ここに入っています。お楽しみに。

It was a warm day, so peas (Gold Harvest for dry peas) and potatoes were seeded today.  Nothing can be seen, but they are there.  Looking forward to their growth.

柴の森からの、最新プロジェクトを紹介します。’MORI GREENS’（森の葉っぱ）と名付けられた、マイクログリーンを育てるビジネスです。マイクログリーンとは、豆苗やカイワレなどを含む、植物の新芽のこと。室内で、自然光に近いフルスペクトラムライトの下で育てると、十日ほどで収穫できます。まだ屋外では野菜が育たないこの時期に、貴重な葉っぱ源です。近所のファームストアやファーマーズマーケットで販売する予定です。Mori Greens をよろしくお願いします。

Introducing the newest project from Shiba Forest.  Named ‘MORI GREENS’, it is a tiny microgreens business.  Microgreens are the new shoots of plants, including pea shoots and Kaiware radishes.  They are grown indoors, under full-spectrum grow lights, and can be harvested in 10 days.  At this time of year, when vegetables still can’t be grown outdoors, these shoots provide us with precious sources of greens.  They will be sold at a local farm store and Farmers’ Market.  Welcome Mori Greens!

柴の森のブログを始めて、一年が経ちました。長かったようで、あっとゆう間だったようで。変わったようで、変わらないようで。これからの一年、どう進化していくのか楽しみです。フカフカの森主共々、よろしくお願いします。

It’s been one year since the Shiba Forest blog started.  It felt long, and felt like a moment; it changed a lot, and stayed the same.  Looking forward to seeing how Shiba Forest will evolve in the next year.  Thank you for coming along on the journey!

朝起きてみたら、またこれ。もう３月なのに！

Woke up this morning, to THIS.  It is March already!

昨日、薪積みをしておいてよかった！お向かいのおじちゃんと、古いシビックと薪を交換しました。今年はこれで乗り切れるはず。

Good thing all the firewood was stacked yesterday!  The old Civic was traded for the wood from Greg across the street.  This should get us through the year.

大智のイチジクを植えました。アヤちゃんの隣にね。

Daichi’s fig tree has been planted – beside Aja.

痩せた土の手助けをするために、お堀を掘って、有機物を詰め込みました。木の枝、アヒルの寝床に使った藁、馬糞、ミミズ入りの腐葉土、で最後は、秋に集めておいた落ち葉。これで、水も溜まるし、栄養もたっぷりなはずだけど、今年一年様子を見ます。

A mulch basin was installed around the tree to help accelerate soil creation.  It’s filled with branches, straw used as duck bedding, horse manure, leaf litter full of warms, and finally covered in more leaves.  This basin should store water, as well as provide enough nutrients for the tree.  We will see how it does this year.
