After only one month, it is already disintegrating. Hay bales are quick to decompose, so perhaps, straw bales would be best. But, it’s growing delicious lettuces!
Lately, each plant has taken its unique shape. Mizuna and Kale are looking especially great.
Another experiment. A miniature vermicompost in the middle of a garden bed. It is just a simple set-up of a bottomless pot buried into the raised bed, with some red wrigglers, veggie scraps, and leaves, etc. thrown in. It’s pretty handy for composting wilted leaves and weeds right on the spot. Plus, the worm poop and decomposed organic matter will continuously feed the surrounding plants, in theory.
The peas couldn’t grow any bigger in the tiny egg cartons, so they moved out to the garden. They are still a bit too little, though; birds, bugs, and slugs will surely find them…. But all there is to do is to wish them good luck. This will be a no entry zone for the chickens!
Bartlett Pear has been found. This should pollinate Chojuro – too late this year, but next year!
The greens in the pallet garden are already germinating. Maybe they panicked a bit because it got so warm all of a sudden?
This is going to be Daichi’s tree. It’s tiny now, but will become a big tree one day, and produce a bounty of delicious figs. Happy 3rd Birthday!
