サチコさんから貰った種の、イエローミニトマトです。‘ミニ’と言うわりに大きいね。他のトマトの調子がイマイチな中、これだけ好調に熟してます。味もグッド！
Yellow mini-Tomato grown from the seeds my mom got from her friend, Ms. Sachiko. They’re pretty big for ‘mini’ tomatoes. While the other tomatoes aren’t looking great, these ones are ripening nicely. Taste good, too!
今日から仲間に加わった、インディアンランナーという種類の、アヒルです。２羽ともメスで、ビリーとモリーです。これから、宜しくお願いします。チキン達は、ダックハウスが気に入った様子。仲良くしてね！
Joining Shiba Forest as of today, are two female Indian Runner ducks – Billie and Molly. Chickens think that the duck house is their new jungle-gym? Hope they will like their new flock-mates!

秋冬用のサラダ畑。 Fall/Winter salad garden
2日で芽が出た！ルッコラ Arugula, germinated in 2 days!
八月の暑さが舞い戻ってきました。でも、もう冬野菜を植える時期。ほうれん草、ルッコラ、からし菜、小松菜、ミズナ、春菊、レタス、大根、白菜、とりあえず色々蒔いて見ました。美味しい秋冬になりますように！
The HOT August has returned. But it’s already time to plant the winter garden. Spinach, Arugula, Mustard greens, Komatsuna, Mizuna, Shungiku, Lettuces, Daikon radish, Sui Choi… tried seeding a variety of greens. May the Fall/Winter be a delicious one!
柴の森のデザインの元になる考え方として、‘パーマカルチャー’という言葉があります。パーマネント（永続性）と、農業（アグリカルチャー）、そして文化（カルチャー）を合わせた言葉です。詳しくは、パーマカルチャーセンターJAPAN（pccj.jp）で紹介されています。
パーマカルチャーを実践する上で、基本となる価値観の一つが、‘資源を共有する’こと。自分に必要なだけ貰ったら、余分は分かち合うと言う事。柴の森でも実行して行きたいと思います。
これだけのズッキーニとボタンスクワッシュ（裏の友達の畑で出来たのも混ざっています）、地域のフェースブックのグループに、無料で提供して見たところ、直ぐに貰い手が見つかりました。家の前に置いて、自由に持って行ってもらったので、誰が来たのかは分かりません。出来る人には、フードバンクへの寄付金を置いて行ってもらう様にお願いしたら、＄１１．５０入っていました。おいしい食べ物を分け合えて、少しのお金でも必要としている人達へ回れば、一石二鳥。これからも続けて行きたいと思います。
These zucchini and pattypan were offered, for free, on the local Facebook group. They were left at the end of the driveway, for people to take what they needed. We don’t know who came by, but they are all gone! Those who are able to were asked to leave a small donation for the food bank in exchange – there were $11.50 in the jar at the end of the day! Being able to share great food, and forwarding even a little bit of money to those who need it, it’s a win-win. We will continue to work on finding ways to share the excess with the community.
