ここ数日の植物たちの成長がすごい！グリーンハウスの中は、もう夏の暑さ。

Plants have been growing like crazy in the last few days!  Inside the greenhouse already feels as hot as summer.

アヤちゃんに守られながら、大智のイチジクも葉を出しそう。

Under Aja’s watch, Daichi’s Fig is opening up its first leaves.

梨の２０世紀が仲間入り。

20th Century Asian Pear joined the clan.

これは、乾燥豆ようの背が高くなる種類。今年初めて育てる種です。グリーンハウスの中に作った畑に植えました。元気に育ちますように。

These are for dry peas, a climbing kind, called Calvert.  First year to try these seeds from Salt Spring Seeds; planted in the new bed in the greenhouse.  May they grow and prosper.

最近は毎日、ケールの花を食べます。去年のケールが冬を越えて、一斉に花を咲かせるこの時期、どんどん出てきます。菜の花みたいな感じ。紫のちっちゃなブロッコリーも少し。

Every day lately, kale flower is on the menu.  Overwintered kales are all trying to flower at this time of year; they just keep on coming!  And some purple sprouting broccoli, too.

ようやく咲きました。ミツバチ、野生の蜂、ハチドリ、他の小鳥たちも、集まってきます。

Finally flowering.  Honey bees, wild bees, hummingbirds, and other song birds are all gathering here.

柴の森（２０１７年４月） Shiba Forest (April 2017)

暖かいグリンハウスの中で、新芽がニョキニョキ。 Seeds are waking up inside the warm greenhouse.

家の中でも、人口ライトの下で育ちます。 Inside the house, too, under a grow light.

冬を越したハーブたちも復活した。 Overwintering herbs have come back to life.

やっぱり、エンドウが一番乗り。 As always, the peas are the first ones.

イラクサ、元気です。 Stinging nettles, looking great.

やっと、春になりました。今日は１５度まで上った、春日和。植物たちは、１ヶ月以上遅れで、ようやく元気になってきました。これから一気にパワーアップかな？

Spring, finally.  Today was a real spring day, up to 15 degrees.  Plants are about one month late, but finally showing signs of spring growth.  Will they turn up the gears now?
