柴の森で育った、トマト、ズッキーニ、ネギ、ガーリック。近くの農家で育ったトウモロコシも加えて、サルサが出来ました。リンゴ酢とレモンを入れすぎて、酸っぱーいよー！もう一回やらなくちゃ。

Tomatoes, zucchini, green onions, and garlic that grew at Shiba Forest.  Added some sweet corn from a local farm, too; and here’s some homemade salsa.  Except… too much lemon and apple cider vinegar…. It’s so sour!!  Let’s try again one more time.

今年育った豆のサンプルです。最近雨が多くて、なかなか乾きません。早く食べたいよお。

A sample of the dry beans that grew here this year.  It has been raining so much lately that the beans are still not dry…  Can’t wait to eat them!

お隣さんの庭で採れたブドウ。白と青を混ぜてジュースにしたら、こんな色！酸っぱめで、レモネードの様な味がして、美味しいです。もっと作ります。

Grapes from the neighbours’ yard.  A mix of the white and the blue grapes made juice this colour!  It’s tart but good, with a taste a bit like lemonade.  Will be making more of these.

柴の森（２０１６年９月） Shiba Forest (September 2016)

ズッキーニ、まだ頑張る。ひまわりも。 Zucchini still goes. Sunflower, too.

少しずつ大きくなる、キャベツ。  Cabbages growing slowly.

キッチンガーデン（２０１６年９月）Kitchen Garden (September 2016)

スズメは、エンドウの芽が好きらしい。 Sparrows like pea shoots.

頑張れ、トマト！  Go tomatoes!

ブドウ、出来上がり。 Grapes are ready.

ちっちゃいけど、実ってる。 Little, but there.

ウィンターガーデン、ルッコラいっぱい。 Winter garden – lots of arugula.

藁で大根育つかな？  Will daikon grow in the straw?

移植待ちの冬野菜  Winter veggies waiting to be transplanted.

雨と共に、急に秋がやって来ました。‘実りの秋’とはまだ言えないけれど、１年目の夏よく頑張った！どんな秋冬になるか、楽しみです。

With the much wanted rain, the Fall suddenly arrived.  The gardens did pretty well for its first summer!  Looking forward to the Fall/Winter season at Shiba Forest.

コンポーストの山、と言うより、有機‘ゴミ’を積み上げただけの、庭の片隅。もしかして、と思って、カボチャの苗を数個植えて置きました。全く放置しただけで、水さえも一度もあげなかったのに、こんなのが実ってる！そうめんカボチャは、垣根を上って隣に届きそう。

A compost pile, or actually just a fresh pile of yard-waste and gutter-gunk at the corner of the yard.  A few leftover squash plants were put into it in the spring, and completely abandoned all summer; not even watered once.  But look at them!  This spaghetti squash seems to want to go over the hedge to the neighbour’s…

ちなみに、結構手をかけて造ったカボチャ畑はこの様子。来年は楽させてもらおうかな？

By the way, the squash bed that I (and Chickens, too) worked pretty hard to build looks like this now.  Maybe next year… let Nature do the work?
